When our awesome friends over at Benjamin Bridge reached out asking us to conceptualize and produce a fun summer TV spot for their new non-alcoholic drink, we obviously jumped at the opportunity. We knew we could create something really special and with such a good working relationship their marketing team basically handed us the reigns and gave us full creative control.. which is how we work best!

THE GOAL:

Create a fun and upbeat ad showcasing the new Piquette Zero beverage. The idea was to have nice summer vibes, friends hanging out at home and at the beach (no alcohol of course) enjoying this amazing new beverage.

THE CHALLENGE:

Summer vibes… in mid October? If you’re from the Maritimes you understand how much of a challenge this can be, the weather can be so unpredictable, the sun starts setting earlier and earlier. Another factor was the limited budget, it was the first time BB had wanted an ad for TV. After a few days of storyboarding, coordinating locations and talent we finally had a solid timeline for the project.. and away we went.

SHOOT DAY:

Everything really went off without a hitch, our first location was a friends patio. 4 friends, wine, Piquette and charcouterie, the visuals practically made themselves. We used wireless monitoring to view the scenes as they were being shot, a dolly for smooth crisp shots and a HUGE sheet of diffusion and negative to control the lighting in the backyard. The results were phenomenal.

Location two was a bit trickier, carrying all the gear down the public beach for sunset made for a good workout if nothing else. For this scene we had two friends having a drink on the beach before going for a swim. Fairly simple, we lit the whole scene with natural lighting and simply used an Easyrig to get some buttery hand held shots.

TAKE AWAY:

So the main takeaway for us was really learning and solidifying that investing the time and money in to a project can yield epic results. We chose to pull together a team and rent gear to make the shoot more seamless and just add a higher value to the production, not only for the client but for us to use as leverage down the road.
